NSS denies Vice-President CP Radhakrishnan permission to offer floral tributes at Mannam Samadhi

The Nair Service Society (NSS), a prominent organisation of the Nair community in Kerala, has denied permission to Vice-President C P Radhakrishnan to visit and offer floral tributes at the Mannam Samadhi, the tomb of Mannathu Padmanabhan, founder of the NSS.

The Vice-President is scheduled to arrive in Changanassery on February 28 to participate in a program marking the conclusion of the centenary celebrations of SB College.

As per the schedule released in the first phase, it was stated that Vice-President CP Radhakrishnan, whose helicopter will land at the Nedumbassery airport, Changanassery to visit Mannam Samadhi and offer floral tributes at the Samadhi. However, as the NSS denied permission to him, the schedule of his visit to Changnassery has been changed.

According to the new schedule, the Vice-President’s helicopter will land at the ground in Perunna at around 2.45 pm before proceeding to the college.

The unofficial information received from the NSS is that they were not informed about the programme of the vice-president in advance and that only permission was sought for the helicopter to land.

Earlier in January, West Bengal Governor C V Ananda Bose alleged that he was denied an opportunity to offer floral tributes at the Mannam Samadhi, before taking charge as governor in 2022. He accused the NSS leadership of acting as “gatekeepers” and violating community rights. The NSS general secretary G. Sukumaran Nair rejected this allegation.
